Eloping in Devon

Big weddings are lovely. The flowers, the dresses, the happy tears, the questionable dance moves from Uncle Whoever.

But you know what else is lovely?

Just the two of you.

No seating plans. No worrying about whether Great Aunt Margaret is getting along with the other side of the family. No trying to make sure everyone has a drink, a canapé and a good time.

Just two people getting married somewhere beautiful, doing things their own way.

And if that sounds rather appealing, Bovey Castle Hotel on Dartmoor might just be the perfect place for it.

A wedding without all the wedding-ing

There's something rather wonderful about an elopement.

You get to spend your wedding day actually being together, rather than spending half of it making sure everyone else is having a good time.

You can have the lovely dress. The flowers. The beautiful venue. The little celebratory meal afterwards.

You can have all the romance without the spreadsheet.

And at Bovey Castle, with its beautiful surroundings and rather grand hotel, you certainly don't have to sacrifice the lovely setting to keep things small.

In fact, I think there's something quite special about having such an elegant place to yourselves for a little while, even if it's just for the photographs.

Because honestly, who says you need 100 guests to justify a beautiful wedding venue?

Bovey Castle: a rather lovely place to get married

Tucked away in the beautiful Dartmoor countryside, Bovey Castle is one of those places that feels a little bit special as soon as you arrive.

It's grand, it's beautiful, and it has that lovely feeling of being somewhere a little out of the ordinary.

And then there's Dartmoor itself.

The countryside, the changing light, the beautiful views. It's a wonderful setting for a wedding, particularly if you're the sort of couple who would rather have a little adventure than spend the day following a very strict timetable.

You could have your ceremony, enjoy a little time together, wander around the grounds and have some photographs without feeling as though you're being hurried from one thing to the next.

And if you're anything like me, you'll probably want to stop for a little wander and admire the scenery along the way.

It's a hard life, isn't it?

Just two people, and all the little moments

One of the things I love about photographing intimate weddings is that there is so much room for the little things.

The nervous excitement before the ceremony.

The moment you realise you're actually married.

The little glances, the laughter, the way you look at each other when nobody else is watching.

And the wonderfully ordinary things that become rather extraordinary when they're part of your wedding day.

You don't need a big wedding party or a grand entrance to make those moments meaningful.

Sometimes it's just the two of you, standing together somewhere beautiful, wondering how on earth you managed to get so lucky.

And that's rather lovely to photograph.

Elopement photography at Bovey Castle

I'm Brynn, a natural-light photographer based in Mid Devon, and I photograph weddings and elopements across Devon and the surrounding areas.

My approach is relaxed, natural and a little more about prompting than posing.

I want you to feel comfortable, enjoy yourselves and have photographs that look and feel like you.

For an elopement at Bovey Castle, that might mean a few photographs around the beautiful hotel, a little time outdoors, some lovely portraits of the two of you and plenty of those little moments in between.

And if you're worried about being photographed, please don't be.

I promise you don't need to turn up knowing how to pose.

That's what I'm there for.

You just need to turn up, get married and enjoy yourselves.

I'll take care of the photographs.

Thinking about eloping at Bovey Castle?

If you're planning an intimate wedding at Bovey Castle Hotel, I'd love to hear about it.

Whether you're planning a ceremony with just the two of you, a lovely meal afterwards or a little Dartmoor adventure, I'd be delighted to help capture your day.

I photograph weddings throughout Devon, with a particular soft spot for smaller celebrations and couples who want their wedding to feel relaxed, personal and genuinely theirs.

Because weddings don't have to be big to be beautiful.

And sometimes, the very best wedding days are the ones where you get to spend the whole thing with your favourite person.

Just the two of you. A beautiful place. A little bit of romance. And absolutely no seating plan.

Sounds rather lovely to me.
